What Building Materials & Aggregates Do We Stock?

We stock a large range of products here at The Cobble Shop which will help you complete some of your projects!

Building Aggregates

Type One

We stock Type One aggregate which might also be called; Hardcore, Sub-Base, MOT, MOT Type 1 and DOT Type 1.

Type One is a crushed aggregate material used to provide a stable base for road surfaces and pathways. Both primary and recycled material can be used to produce a Type One sub-base.

Whin Dust

We stock Whin Dust which might also be called Granite Dust.
Whin Dust is typically used for creating a low-cost firm base under various landscape features. Whin dust can also be used for paving blocks, bricks or slabs. For best results, it is recommended whin dust should be laid at a minimum of 50mm thick and then compacted using a whacker (or similar) to no less than 30mm.

Concrete Sand 

We stock Concrete Sand which might also be called Sharp Sand, Coarse Sand and Pit Sand.

Ideal for screeds, renders or concrete, concrete sand can also be used when laying slabs or block paving. Alternatively, concrete sand can be sprinkled and forked in to peat and compost for root cuttings and propagating cuttings as it can improve the soil’s overall drainage.

Building Sand

We stock building sand which might also be called River Sand, Screeding Sand, Plasterer’s Sand, Mason’s Sand and Brick Layer Sand.

Building sand is a soft sand suitable for bricklaying, pointing applications, rendering and general building usage. Applications also include precast such as block and concrete paving. Sand aggregate is extracted from quarries or by marine dredging.

Ballast

We stock Ballast which is often simply called Sand and Gravel or All-In.

Ballast is a mixture of sharp sand and small stones or gravel, used to make concrete for a variety of landscaping uses – from path edgings and shed bases to kerbs and securing fence posts.

Drainage Gravel

We stock both 10mm & 20mm Drainage Gravel which might also be called Pea Gravel, Clean Stone or simply Drainage Stone.

Drainage Gravel is a perfect aggregate for use in/with other materials such as concrete. The 20mm size is much easier to spread across a large area and hide mounds and valleys well. The main purpose of this gravel is for use around ground drainage or for bedding underground pipes. Both 10mm & 20mm are in stock.

Building Materials

Drainage Pipe 

We stock a 4″ Drainage Pipe which might also be called Drain Pipe, Drainage Coil, Wavin Coil, Lad Drain, Perforated Coil and Perforated Drainage Pipe.

Drainage Coil is a corrugated subsoil drainage system that is designed to relive ground water in areas that are at risk of damage due to water saturation.

Cement 

We stock 25kg bags of Cement which is sometimes called Stick, Bond, Adhesive and Concrete.

Our general purpose cement suitable for use in any building application, including concrete, mortar, plastering and screeding. This cement is perfect for general use, particularly in smaller jobs and repairs.

Weed Control

We stock x7 different options when it comes to Weed Control fabric to give you as much selection as possible. Weed Control might also be called; Land Fabric, Underlay, Landscape Fabric, Weed Barrier or Ground Sheet.

Weed Control is an underlay for gravel or bark-covered drives or paths in the garden. This product is designed to allow water to penetrate the soil whilst suppressing the growth of weeds. It is the perfect landscape fabric for chipping, stones and gravel.

Concrete Products

Delivery Information

All deliveries within Ayrshire, Glasgow, East Kilbride, Paisley and surrounding areas will be made with one of our own fleet of hi-ab. lorries. Please leave detailed information about where the goods have to be dropped. We operate a kerbside delivery but where possible will attempt to place your goods in the position of your choice providing this is within reason. We will not however take a lorry off of the public road onto a driveway for example without a damage disclaimer being signed by the customer first. Please ask for details of this when ordering and we will be happy to explain. All deliveries outside Ayrshire, Glasgow, East Kilbride and Paisley are subcontracted out via palletised carrier companies. It is your responsibility to advise us of any delivery restrictions you may have prior to the goods being despatched, along with your full delivery address including postcode and contact telephone number.
